Green Up Your Act!

Helloooo people! How are you today? It's been a while since my last post. Busy, busy, busy... busy busy.. BUSY!! I started school and I've barely been able to breath. WORD OF ADVISE: Do NOT leave classes that you could take during today, for tommorow. I learned the hard way and now, I'm overloading on stress -__-

But hey,  I've gotta keep my blog updated so here I go again.. Today I wanted to show you an amazing polish. It is Nicole by OPI's Green Up Your Act! It is part of the Fall 2011 Something About Color collection, which is a Target Exclusive. With the collection came four nail polishes Green Up Your Act, I Love You Cherry Much, It's Not Me, It's Blue, and Sounds Grape to Me. I just picked up two though, the other colors were just meh to me.

...And there she is. Green Up Your Act. This is the only color worth of showing you guys cause I also got It's Not Me, It's Blue (blue-gray shimmer) but I didn't love it. Green Up Your Act however, Is amazing. It is a dusty greeeeeeen. I just love greens like this. It is green, but not in your face. I love colors like that. The formula on this color was nice and even. This is definitely one of my favorite greens this Fall.

HOW I WORE IT!!
I just wanted to add a little extra to this post so I decided to show you how I rocked this color. I wanted some contrast so you know, I wore it with warm, earthy tones. I don't like matching my nail polish with the clothes I wear. I like them to stand out. Sooooooo here it is!
 KISSY FACE!! lol :-*
In case you are interested in knowing here is a list of where I bought my stuff...

Shirt and Leggings- Gap
Earrings and Necklace- Aldo Accessories
Sandals- EXPRESS
Ring and Bracelets- FOREVER 21

I hope you guys enjoyed my post. I have a question, how do you like to wear your nail polish?

Mel's Burger Bar with My Mommy

Hey you guys!

Today I had dinner with my mom and I had such a good time with her. She is really the best mom in the world. Someone should give her a trophy or something cause she is my mom, but I can hang out with her like if we were sisters. Oh how I love my mother is unexplainable.

Another thing I love about her is her love for food (I guess that's where I got it from). She loves to sit down in a restaurant and eat. Although she prefers her Arroz con Habichuela (rice and beans), today she finally caved into my art of persuasion and decided to try something different. She and I went to this cute restaurant named Mel's Burger Bar on the Upper West Side between 110th and 111th Street. I had been wanting to go into this place for weeks and never had an opertunity to go in. I was always hypnotized by Chipotle Mexican Grill, which is right across the street; the Lord only knows my love for Chipotle :)

Today I finally went in and I wasn't disappointed, but I also wasn't blown away. Let's break this post into two sections, well, three cause of the intro.... yeah.

First I want to tell you about the atmosphere. It is loud. Not the place you want to go to if you want to have a conversation with someone. It isn't the music that is loud, but the people. Especially the guy next to me. Damn people need to learn how to use their inside voices. I just wanted to throw a fry at them or something. Anyhow, It definity has an all American bar theme; I was sitting under a picture of our great flag. The restaurant was filled with rustic yet cozy elements like wood and warm colors. There was this picture that I found kinda cute and had to take a picture of it:

Isn't that cute?? Anyway, now let's talk about the good stuff, FOOD. My mother and I both ordered a Classic burger: lettuce, tomatoes, pickles (I ordered mine with no onions),  served on a potato roll for $8.90. Seems like a good deal considering it brought a side of cold slaw right? NOO!!! The burger was small and I think I got a sample of cold slaw instead of a side. Plus, If you want fries that's an extra $3.50. You don't really get that much bang for your buck at Mel's Burger Bar. There are better burger joints in the city, fo sho!! (that's "for sure" for the people that didn't get it)
Don't get me wrong the food wasn't awful, it just wasn't great. The burger was a little under seasoned. The fries shined more then the burger and If there's one thing I would to Mel's would be for their Caramel Milkshake. OMG that shake was delicious! My mom said it was too sweet but i don't care. It catered to my sweet tooth perfectly.

All in all, I had fun with my mom which is what I was looking for. Mel's Burger Bar has a full bar so it's great to go to with friends. If you'd like to check it out someday go to their website by clicking here. As I said it is mind blowing, but it is an okay burger joint. Hope you liked my post!

PURPLEMANIA: African Violet

I am so exited to introduce to you PURPLEMANIA, like Hulkamania but purple. What the hell is PURPLEMANIA you might ask yourself, well, this is going to be a series of blog post that featuring my favorite purple nail polishes.

SOOO here is the first PURPLEMANIA post!!

Today I have for you American Apparel's African Violet. Honestly, I don't know when this came out, i just know it purple, and a hot purple!!

(Two coats of African Violet, with Sech Vite topcoat)
African Violet is a gorgeous purple. In my eyes it's everything a purple should be; bright, but not too bright. It also has a dustiness that I love!! The formula was amazing, as with most of the American Apparel nail polishes. It was very opaque and I could of gotten away with just one coat, but I used two anyway.

Here you can pick up more of the brightness in the purple. Look at that.... now that's a PURPLE!! I love this nail polish. It is definitely one of the best purples I own. You could grab one of these in any American Apparel or order online at their website by clicking here.

I hope you enjoyed my first PURPLEMANIA post as much as I enjoyed writing it for you :)

Cookie Party!

Hey people! I am very exited to show you something that I found today while I was in Garden State Plaza in Paramus, NJ.

So I'm walking out of the food court after having my lunch and I decided to go to Aldo Shoes. Since Aldo is in the second floor, I take the escalators only to discover this cute little stand called Cookie Party. Now, what called my attention about this spot wasn't the cookies, but the cupcakes. I didn't know which ones to get.  There were Sundae Cupcakes, Fudge, Vanilla, and Strawberry cupcakes. It too a while but I decided to get the Red Velvet with CREAM CHEESE FROSTING!!! Ugh, it was so good. The frosting was a little too sweet but the cake balanced it out because it wasn't that sweet. Man that cupcake was good. I love Red Velvet Cake especially with cream cheese frosting. Its like the perfect balance between sweet and savory.

Do you see that? Do you see that frosting? I wish you can taste it because It was so light, sweet and airy... Ahhh. The cake was also fluffy. I have to admit I have tasted better, but this one was great! You can definitely find great cupcakes in the city, but this is very good for when your in the mall and your sweet tooth starts aching. I can't wait to go back and grab another one of these babies. Maybe I'll also try the cookies this time. They looked so good; and cute!! The cupcake's frosting is to blame for me not buying the cookies the first time around. Cream Cheese? Come on, how could one say no?
You can get a cupcake for $2.50, which is pretty good considering they're huge!! They're also coming to the city as I saw on their website (click here to go to their website), Toy's R Us: Times Square to be exact. I love to see small business grow like that. I hope you stop by and grab something sweet from here cause everything looks great!!

Hope you enjoyed my post as much as I enjoyed writing it,

Jennifer. <3

Chanel Black Pearl

Hey you guys!

Today I wanted to show you my swatches of Chanel Black Pearl. This nail polish came out as part of the Chanel Les Perles de Chanel Collection for Spring 2011. Now this also came out with two other nail polish colors, Pearl Drop and Péche Nacrée, but this is THE ONE... the one that caught my eye. The one I made an investment on. Chanel nail polishes are very expensive ($25 a bottle). I think the only people that are actually willing to buy them are loons for everything nail polish, like myself!!

Here are my swatches of Chanel Black Pearl. I don't regret buying this baby here because it looks amazing. It's heavy green shimmer shines through in the sunlight... that I unfortunately didn't have to swatch them. You see this weekend in New York we had Hurricane Irene as a visitor and she made my swatching day horrible with her heavy clouds and rain. Sooo I had to take the pictures Indoor. So bear with me here, they aren't the best.
Black Pearl is a charcoal grey/dark green shimmer.  Unfortunately, this picture doesn't show you the green shimmering beauty. It does how ever show the base color, which is a dark charcoal with flashes of green. I love how this dark grey-green was released for Spring. It is dark for the season yet it works.... really well!!
In this picture you can see a little bit of that green shimmer I was talking about. Black Pearl is definitely a hit for me. It is now one of my beloved treasures from my nail polish collection. <3

LATE BIRTHDAY GIFT!!

Hey people,

Today I wanted to show you my belated birthday gift from Sephora in a short post. I was walking around the Upper West Side and came across Sephora on 76th Street and Broadway. Then I was all, "Hey? Did I get my BeautyInsider's birthday gift from Sephora?" So right there I went into the store and asked for my gift. To my surprise it was a Philosophy "Happy Birthday, Beautiful!" 3-IN-1 Body Wash. This has been the best BeautyInsider's birthday gift to this day!

I have to be honest, I don't know much about the brand. But what I do know is that This body wash/shampoo/bubble bath smells delicious! The sent of vanilla birthday cake just kicks the levels of my sweet tooth to a whole new level. OH MY GOD. It smells like a bakery in a bottle.

When your in the shower and you drizzle some of the body wash on... ahhh, Happy Birthday indeed. I love sweet smells, just in case you didn't notice. Like if the smell isn't enough, the body wash makes your skin really feel soft and moisturized. This was a great gift by Sephora. I can't wait to see what they have in store for next year.

Thank You Sephora :)

Sinful Colors Mint Apple

Hello Humans!

Today I've got an old swatch for you. I've always taken pictures of my hands (like, ALWAYS.. to the point where people think I have a problem). I've had the swatches for this polish for quite some time and it has always been one of my favorites. Why you ask? Because my nails were long & beautiful; there, I said it.

BEWARE: I did have a couple of days with this mani, so expect my cuticle line to look horrible. Please excuse me. The polish looks great though! Enjoy :)

Sinful Colors Mint Apple, 2 coats (without base/top coat), w/Flash

This color is gorgeous!! From the subtle silver shimmer to the dustiness in the green, THIS IS JUST AMAZING. The formula is smooth and as you can tell, long lasting with this picture being taken about 3-4 days after the day i painted them. Unfortunately, this picture doesn't really let you see the nice shimmer it has. But it is definitely there... on it being a "mint green" I don't know because it isn't as milky as the color you might think of when you think of mint green.

See what I did there?

Anywho, back to the polish! I really like this color, even if it isn't your classic, creamy, mint green. I like that about it; it's unique in the family of mints. Mint Apple is more of a aqua-mint green.. with shimmer to make it that much better.

Sinful Colors Mint Apple, 2 coats (without base/top coat), w/No Flash

In the picture above, you can definitely appreciate more of that shimmery goodness. Although this has been re promoted this year in the Spring, you sure can rock it in the Summer... like I did. With a nice orange daisy flower ring I scored at Target about a year ago. Now that's what I call color contrast!!

You can get Sinful Colors nail polishes at most major drugstores such as Target, Rite Aid, Walgreens etc. I hope you like my first real post. I'm really kinda liking this whole blogging thing, even if I don't have followers yet :( I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I enjoyed righting it for YOU.

See ya later,

Jennifer :)

Hello.

Ummm... BLOG FRIGHT

Okay.
Hey everyone!! This is my first blog post on Makeup, polish & FOOD. Yes, I know it is an odd combo, but that's what I like so that's what we've got. My name is Jennifer and and I live in New York City, but please take that fancy image of what the city is supposed to be out of your head because it ain't all that fancy. I live in the neighborhood of Washington Heights (Google it). I am a young girl that likes to write but is to self-conscious to tell people that know me about it. I rather tell the world that doesn't know me, or you. I also want you to know about my love for makeup, nail polish, food, fashion, shoes, decor and everything in between. I want to know what you think. I hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I enjoy writing it for YOU :)

Andddddd here is a picture of a heart strawberry that I found before I enjoyed dipped into La Lechera sweetened condensed milk. ahhh.. OH! This heart is for you; just showing some early love.

BTW, if you come across this blog by any chance, please follow. I promise, you will be entertained!!
